Wordpress 2.3.3 released - fixes serious security problem.

Wordpress has released a security update that should be immediately implemented. As always, before implementing

an upgrade, turn off all your plugins, return your seat to the full upright position, backup your entire site down to your ugly mess of cables streaming behind your computer using your favorite ftp program, then update wordpress (being sure to note any hacks you’ve made to specific files and comparing them with the new updates for compatibility), check your page, restart your plugins again, and hope that it all worked out.

For me, it worked out splendiferously. Hooray!

Social Bookmarks plugin for Wordpress allows your readers to bring you traffic!

I have just installed the Social Bookmarks plugin for Wordpress from Apostolos. It’s a great application that gives you a lot of control on what a reader sees at the bottom of your posts or at the bottom of your index page. (your choice) It has a happy

little dropdown menu that you can enable or disable and it gives you the option of choosing about 50 different social bookmarking sites that your readers can favorite you on. It allows you a custom text message to place above the bookmarking links and custom highlight mouseover text. Check out how the code works at the end of this post and if it’s helpful to you, click the bookmarklets!

The Neoclassical theme brings ad functionality, crisp layout, and great design for free!

This weekend, I decided to make a theme update to the site. I have installed the Neoclassical theme because it looks cleaner and offers some behind the scenes functionality for adsense and most of all, in my opinion, it looks great.

The theme was easy to install and I’m going to be replacing some of the rotating banners with new banners that I will be creating out of free stock photos. I have done a search on google and there are several there. I’m working with a free image editing program called GIMP, which is a lot like photoshop. It allows you to do various fun image effects as well as the standard cut/crop/paste that I will need to replace the stock banners that come with the theme.

The Neoclassical theme is an update to the Cutline theme and is written by Chris Pearson. One of the things that caught my eye was the simplicity of the design and that the banners at the top of the page rotate. There is a program that rotates as many banners as you define and it was very easy to get up and running. Hats off to you Chris.

I also really like how the theme supports google adsense. You can insert custom google ads very easily using adsense deluxe and the Neoclassical theme. Basically you put <p class=”ad”><!–THENAMEOFYOURAD–></p> in the code section of your post and it formats it nicely within the content of your post. This helps keeps the links more relevant for adsense and it just looks more professional. It also allows you the flexibility of putting it *exactly* where you want it.
